Any difference between a i5 6600 and a i7 6700k

Would I notice a great difference between the 2 cpu's above, mainly used for photo and video editing and some light gaming.

They would be used on a Asus Z270 board with 32gb ram, a 500gb ssd and a gtx 980.

Thanks

Are you asking because you already have the motherboard and bits and just need the CPU? Because if not, you're buying 2-generations-old tech and your budget is much better deployed in a 6-core Ryzen than a 4-core Intel.

Assuming video editing poses similar workloads and thread counts as video encoding, more threads wins the day every time. By how much is... down to the software. You'd have to look for benchmarks for your specific tools really.

(Even if you do have the motherboard and bits, the same memory, GPU, and SSD would work for a Ryzen rig too; and AMD boards are relatively inexpensive.)

I already have the board, i5 6600, ssd and 980. My friend is offering me a i7 6700k at what I know is a good price so was wondering how much difference I might notice.

Ah, fair enough. Also I just noticed you said 6600 not 6600k. If it's changing from non-k to k, then you gain overclocking in addition to the extra threads, which is nothing to be sneezed at.

It would depend on your particular software and games, but assuming you'd resell the i5, I'd probably pay about £60-70 for the switch in your place. More than that, I'd be considering that for £230 I could get a 6c/12t Ryzen 1600 and motherboard, for which I already have the (expensive!) 32gb of memory.

Just 2p for thought :)

Thanks for the advice, yes the 6600 is the non k version. Software used is Photoshop and lightroom mainly and I do like a blast on Doom every now and again :D.
