Me? My first 'proper' taste of DOOM was Doom 64 and I've played most versions starting from the original PC version up to DOOM ETERNAL (I've only got the first part of the Anieint Gods DLC and got it just to test whatI've been told and did anybody see the Lockdown message on a screen in the scenry of th first level?).
I thought DOOM 3 was serious until I got the 2016 DOOM.

I played the original Doom when it first came out (and Wolfenstein before that) and the new versions just don't do it for me. Sure they look great but there's no or little reward for intelligent play. In Doom and Doom 2 you could get the monsters to fight each other, you could scout ahead, and more. Since Doom 3 it was a case of 'you move and monsters teleport in'.

Doom/D2 were kind of how they were in part due to technical limitations, D3 was the first time id had a chance to really pursue the atmosphere mechanic (some would argue they overdid this).

In fact Doom2 had plenty of "monsters teleport in" moments - everytime you see a keycard perched on a ledge, you know it's probably an abush - it's just that it wasn't combined with creepy dark corridors and moody sounds.

Doom 2016 is probably the closest to the feel of D2; DE arguably has a higher skill ceiling but the pacing is wrong, too much platforming etc.

Only started with Doom 3 and then Doom Eternal. Really wish they kept with the horror story game play with Doom 3 as I enjoyed that far more than the generic mindless shooter they turned it back into.

Doom 3 was a horror game.

Doom 2016 is an action shooter where you just have to keep moving.

Oh it was a horror game alright. It gave me cold sweats from all the character bobbing. Very nauseating. Let alone the tunnel vision from the flashlight looking into a black void.

PSX Doom was where it all started for me. Since then, lots of experimenting with mods and Doom 1, 2, etc., as well as some Doom 64 - which I also like a lot.

Loved Doom 3 though I play it less often, usually when a new mod comes out.

Doom 2016 was a blast but I've yet to go back and finish Eternal's main campaign or even investigate the other content.

Original Doom could have quite a high skill ceiling in terms of movement/positioning and choices of ammo used vs the different monsters, etc. which Doom 3 didn't really have though I did like the approach with Doom 3. Doom 2016 came close to nailing the formula with a mix of both approaches but didn't quite master it while Doom Eternal I just find too much of a chore where you are jumping through hoops for the sake of it - I don't mind mastering the gameplay flow of Doom which can be a bit repetitive once you get it down but there was just too much mastering combos and repeating them in DE which just isn't my thing.

It's fun though. But with all those corpses lying around and all the blood you've got to admit there's a horror element.

Played both Doom and Doom2, Doom 3 I tried again recently but got bored, have the doom from 2016 but haven't completed it yet.

Me neither.

You should. The graphics are so gorgeous, all the black and orange/red. Let alone some of the metal work. Some fun battles as well but not as heart pumping as Eternal. I love how thick and heavy the big monsters is on the two newest games.

I played every Doom game, or all the ones i knew of.

They are so different now but i do still quite like the new ones.

Look forward to the next....

I've played pretty much every main release of Doom going.

I actually started on Doom II on a 386 PC that wasn't powerful enough to run it. So believe it or not I used to play in low resolution mode on almost the smallest screen size available. It's funny to think the original Doom games had a low resolution mode - think you had to press F5 or something.

Anyway I beat D2 playing like this and learned the maps so well I could get around them going backwards. I also learned to play by sound as visually it was tough to see anything.

Then we got an upgrade to a 486 PC. Wow. Playing D2 full screen in high res mode - I was blown away. It was totally awesome.

I played D1 after D2 and loved that one as well. Both the originals had great flow and clever map designs.

Another wow moment for me was getting Doom on the playstation. This had a better feeling of atmosphere and a great sound library, particularly the chain gun. The sound of the chain gun was so lame on PC, but on Playstation it was, well, meaty!!

I also played through all of the Final Doom content also on Playstation. Some of those levels were mental.

Then Doom 3 came along and I was blown away all over again. I had a PC that could run it and the styling and atmosphere was brilliant. Even now D3 is one of my favourite iterations of Doom and one of my favourite games in general. I loved how gritty it was and the grim atmosphere. It's dated now but I'm playing it through on a VR port on my Quest 2 which is a great experience.

I also loved the mission pack where you got to see a lot more of hell.

From here I discovered Classic Doom which was a Port of the shareware license for E1 of Doom into the Doom 3 engine. Nostalgia overload and some really great work by the developers.

Then Doom 2016 - OMFG. What a game. Brilliant mix of atmosphere, pace and combat. Also really fun secret hunting. Finding the classic map levers was really tricky in places. I also enjoyed the rune challenges. I triple dipped this game across PC and xbox/ps4. It's looking a bit dated now but still a great game.

Then Doom Eternal. Meh. Great looking game but felt a bit too soft and cartoony. Wasn't a massive fan of the platforming but I guess it added something new. Overall I enjoyed it and there's no doubting the increased tactical needs in combat, particularly on harder level settings. I actually quite like how you have to think on your feet and manage resources, use correct weapons and mods etc.

Finally, I came to Doom64 (I missed it first time around). Really enjoyed it and it seems to share the sound library of the playstation Doom. Some great level design and a great effort given the technical limitations at the time.

Out of them all I prefer Doom 2016, followed by D3 and then Doom 2 - so much nostalgia!

I faintly remember the original Doom when it came out but hadn't played any since that until 2016. I really liked that and bought Eternal at launch but fell off it when it got too hard. I just kept forgetting the flame and chainsaw which are absolutely essential, and couldn't juggle the keys it wanted me to. I picked it up again a couple of months ago though and it all just clicked. It really is phenomenal once you get OK at it and get into a flow. Watching the hardcore sorts go at it on YouTube is another level.
