Any electric shower experts?

I went to turn my shower on this morning (it's been working fine with no issues until this morning) and water was coming out of the shower head but there wasn't much pressure. At the bottom of the base of the shower there is a little valve shown in number 8 on the picture below and water was coming out of it. (Never done it before.)

I'm not an expert as you can tell but does anyone know why this may be?

When I turn on my electric shower water starts leaking out from the bottom of the unit, why?
If water is leaking from a clear plastic tube or small plastic elbow in the unit, then the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) has been activated. The most common reasons for the PRD to activate are that the showerhead has become blocked or there is a restriction in the shower hose. A replacement can be ordered from our online spare parts store or by calling 0844 980 0745
If the water is not leaking from the clear plastic tube, then isolate the electricity supply to the shower and call 0844 980 0745 for advice.

There's still enough pressure in it for the moment to have a shower. I assume it'd still be safe? I will buy a complete new shower later today.

Are you sure that it's not just the hose joint leaking?
Might just be loose or in need of a new washer :)

No 8 is the Pressure relief device which is activating, try removing shower head from hose & see if the valve pipe outlet is still releasing water.
You will need to replace it, as they don't usually reset correctly, even if you take it off & rest the valve.

Suggest you descale your shower head, this is the usual cause of the prd activating.
Scale in shower head is causing a build up of pressure.

When the shower head off the release pipe isn't pushing any water out.

It would need replacing but I need a shower pretty much ASAP, so I'm going to have to get a complete new unit. Can't say I mind though as the last one was a couple of years old I think.

If prd it isn't releasing any water your ok then, just buy a new shower head.

Argos anything from £4 upwards for a shower head.

exactly, because your hand is causing a bloackage to the supply therefore activating the PRESSURE RELEASE valve. Just get a new shower head and you'll be good to go

But if I take the shower head off and then put my hand over the pipe, water starts coming out of the PRD.

It will do your building up pressure, so the safety device (prd) will activate to release it.

Scale is the biggest cause of problems, hose, shower head all scale up over time, & a cause a back up of pressure, that why you should descale the showerhead & hose regularly.

With the shower head off and just the pipe on, there is still some slight leaking from the PRD.

As I said before the prd may or may not rest itself properly, see this link will show how to reset it, might solve it dripping, if not you need a new prd around £6, maybe less.

If you don't descale a shower head regularly, this will keep happening regardless what maker of shower you have.
