I am comtemplating wheather or not to get the paid student edition of solidworks as my unviveristy doesnt hav any liscenses for students so i cant get one for free.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with the student version or if anyones university uses it and if so how do they hand out liscences?

THanks for reading!

I used it when I was at uni (however I've since switched to inventor, which is free for students iirc, for better workflow with 3ds max). IIRC the only difference between the student edition and the non student edition was a watermark and tos preventing paid jobs usage.

When I was at uni (not condoning this obviously) it was 'readily' available via other means (as is most software they use). This was basically how most of us got access to the software when I was at uni, it was even supplied by the tutor in one case lol. Pretty sure there is no 'uni has it so student gets a copy' type license.

Ah, i figured that students at universities that used it were able to obtain serials using their student email address and a university hosted licence authorisation server.
But i think it is more complex than that.

I guess i will look into alternate means (i have just installed bitdefender) and see if i can figure it out that way.

I can easily get the student edition for cheap, but i would be doing freelance work for a company i am just about to be employed with - so i would be breaching the TOS - i don't think the boss would mind the watermark though

Thanks for the info!
