So my (privet) hedge is slowly being killed, so I took a look up close and could see things moving, so thought I would crack out the cheapo usb microscope and take a closer look...

Bad idea as I now have a case of the creeps, especially as Ive been googling everything "creepy crawly" to find out what this is, here are some screen shots of what I was seeing through the microscope:

Sorry about the poor image quality, it was a £5 microscope, and these things are TINY! (for scale, the bottom pic is the main "vein" of a leaf about the size of a 50p peice, though the different pictures were at different levels of magnification so probably do not help...

So what is it?! And how do I kill it (without fire or nukes)

May sell to England ? Dunno, but its where i go for anything bug that needs sending to bug heaven !

Spider mites probably in the 2nd & 4th pics. Spring tails in the 1st & 3rd pics.

Spider mites are probably causing the most damage; sucking leaves dry and spreading viral diseases.

Should be some standard pest control thing in your local garden centre.
