Hi Guys,

We're running a very simple Exchange 2007 setup within our small company, however there are 2 parts of it which do not, and never have worked.

1) Public Folders from OWA
2) The Direct File Access thing

Also, we've had an old Exchange 2007 server which basically died, and we rebuilt the setup to a new virtual server, however that old server still appears in the exchange management console etc.

I installed it all myself so I do have fair knowledge of it all, but what I am basically looking for is someone to talk me through sorting these problems?!?! We may be willing to pay a very small token gift to someone to help us sort it all out!

Or...... should we just upgrade our single server to Exchange 2010?

Cheers,

Mal

Hi guys,

This was a new setup, there was initially no public folder database, but I created one manually in a new storage group. The public folders do work to some extend, I've set one up, and we can access it fine from Outlook.

Outlook 2007, going to folder view and then public folders, although it does take a while to come up.

Also, I really cannot remember anything about a 2000/2003 client question :(

Hi Lucero,

I think that may have been the problem! It was pointing to our dead server!!

'm just going through properly removing our old server now, and making sure everything is good. I will report back soon.

Hi chaps. Thanks to both of your help, I have resolved the public folder problem.

I will read up on how to get the direct file access working, and come back if I get any problems. Thank You!!

I've got the direct file access sorted now too!

Basically, i think the main problems were coming from that the dead exchange server was still part of the organisation. I managed to fire up an old snapshot of the dead server in hyper-v, then used adsi edit to kill the public folder replication on it, and did a nice clean uninstall. I then put the mailbox pf store to the correct id, and the public folders started working nicely!!

I then just reset my file access settings to the 2 server name that we wanted, and bang, that also now works!!

All we have left now is to decide how best to utilise some sort of shared calendar that is also nicely viewable on mobile devices!
