Thought there might be as it’s quite common in prolonged computer usage.

I’ve had it for a while but it’s been flaring up badly lately. The symptoms are dry, red, stingy and watery eyes, the feeling of grit in them and blurry vision. Yesterday was bad. I woke up with blurry vision that lasted nearly all day. Fine today.

I have blephaclean wipes from the optician for treating flare ups, but they can’t stop episodes.

Being as we’re all computer users, just wondered if anyone else suffered from this rather annoying affliction.

I get dry eyes but not that bad, I find looking at my phone for extended periods is the worst for it.

Should probably wear my glasses more :p Eye drops help though.

Used to have it until my late 20s. I found using baby shampoo on my eyelids to be a massive help.

I get flare ups occasionly in my right eye , and i have tinnitus in my right ear... mmm i wonder if there is a connection as the tinnitus is much worse when i have a bletharitis episode.

Warm compresses and clean wipes of the eyelids
Massage any sore or blocked glands
Use anti-dandruff shampoo
Artificial tears when it flares up

Any decreased vision, dizziness or joint/muscle pain?

Yes, I use a heat pack on my eyes for 5 or so minutes and then wipe away with tissue/wipes. I did this for a couple of weeks initially and now do it once every 3 or 4 weeks. As warning the first time I used the heat pack so much gunk melted my vision was so bad I panicked! Burt after half hour it was back to normal.

chuck in the microwave for the stated time and relax.

I've had blepharitis for a number of years now. I don't think there's a cure for it as such but you can keep it from being a problem.

After washing face with a cleanser, I will use this microwaveable hot compress: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001U7RKUK/

It retains heat for about 10 mins. You mould it around your eye lids, using the black/soft side first then switch to the hotter silver/silky side when the black side has lost its heat. This will melt/soften the blockages in your eyelid glands. You can also use a clean cloth/towel and hot water but I find that a bit of a faff and it loses heat quickly so multiple applications are required.

You then gently use your finger tips to squeeze out the gunk by rubbing the edge of your eye lids in one motion from the inside (nose side) to the outside (towards ears). I do the bottom and top lids separately.

For dry eyes, artificial tears are recommended but can be pricey. I use Carbomer Eye Gel 10g which can be bought for around £1 each and last about 20 days. It's thicker than normal dry eye drops so lasts longer but doesn't seem to cause blurriness for any longer than say Hycosan eye drops which I also sometimes use.

As for eyelid hygiene, I used to go through tons of eye lid wipes but since working from home, I just wash my face more often.

Edit: I was also prescribed fish oil capsules for my blepharitis but couldn't tell if it made any difference and didn't keep it up but maybe that's something you can try. Google "Omega 3 blepharitis" for more info. I got mine from H&B.

No , why?
It would have suggested a rare eponymous disorder. I love eponymous disorders.

Carbomer is great for night but many people don't like the thickness.
Microwaveable hot compress is great

Omega 3 research is interesting, it's not in guidelines yet but I've had a few patients that swear by it

This is the best stuff I've found and I've tried a few different things:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0794FZ3XG/

Good for overnight, it's what my doctor recommended, £4 a tube

The gold standard of drops. HyloForte is basically sodium hyualuronate but it's also preservative free, an absolute must if you wear contact lenses. I also like the dispensing action.
