any free flash progs?

my younger brother is interested in learning about Flash, is there any free flash dev progs out there?

The macromedia flash prog has a 30 day free trial but if he wants to carry on after the 30 ays he will be screwed!

well ok, is there a cheap flash creation prog out there?

Adobe are charging £574.58 for Flash 8, just a bit too steep for a learner to afford, especially if he cant get into it.

what if you try and buy an older (flash mx) used version somewhere ? i would imagine it'll be cheaper..
