Looks like my idea of moving to 17" is changing to 14" and getting rid of my ultrabook so I just have a single, portable machine.

Both these models do the job, but the question for me is which does a better job of keeping the cpu and gpu cool?

Don't mind fan noise, but both have dual fan cooling, but I can't find reviews of the current models that offers cooling comparisons.

Any owners able to run some benchies?

I've just got the GS40, like you I was looking for a laptop that stayed cool over being silent but with a small case. I've only had it less then a week but so far I'm very impressed.

It's a nice small laptop with decent build quality. I've played a few games on it and temps have all been around 65c for both CPU and GPU.Spec is good with a 256gb ssd and 1tb hdd and it's certainly quick to use, it's had no problems with anything I've thrown at it so far and the IPS screen is excellent as well.

I chose the MSI as the P34 has a fair few reviews about it struggling to keep cool and having to throttle a bit, and so far I'm not regretting my decision!

Any comments about noise when doing office stuff/browsing, or on how solid the chassis feels? I'm currently weighing up the P34K/W vs this and it's hard to decide.

Thanks Blinkz, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Props to both companies, they are the only ones on my radar due to the 2 year warranty.

I don't have a P34K but I own P34W-V5. The fan noise of office work/web browsing is very tiny, or I could say can't really noticeable until you move your head next to the laptop....

For the build quality, it is brilliant. The chassis is sturdy, I think it is even more solid than my Dell XPS 13 (2015). The only downside is the keyboard, it is a biy flimsy at the center and some minor sensitive issue on the spacebar (check my another post)

Since I owned a MSI GT70 rig, I want to give a go on Gigabyte this time and see how they build laptop and how's the quality in compare with MSI. Gigabyte satisfy me this time!

Thanks for the reply david, glad to hear the chasss is sturdy because there seemed to be a fair few complaints about that with the older models. Have you had any thermal throttling issues?

I really wish Gigabyte had included Thunderbolt with it, I can't see why they chose not to.

Well 17" is a no go after trying a GT72S, so still need to decide between a GS40 and P34W, lol
