Any further tweaks on this Prebuild?

I am pretty much set on this OCUK Prebuild (I can’t be bothered building a new PC and want it pre overclocked with warranty so not interested in DIY):

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...-core-i7-8700k-4.9ghz-fs-1bw-og.html#t=a3b1g;

I will keep the default RAM, GPU and SSD options (and remove the HDD as not needed). Will also change the case to the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass as its cheaper, only glass on one side and has better airflow with the mesh front and roof compared to the Evolv Glass:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-enthoo-pro-m-glass-midi-tower-case-black-ca-063-pt.html

If possible I will ask OCUK to replace their standard 240mm AIO cooler with the NZXT Kraken X62 as it has the larger 280mm radiator and the CPU header just looks better:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt-kraken-x62-aio-water-cooling-unit-280mm-hs-01c-nx.html

Get some RGB Halos for the front two fans for a bit of bling (size depending on what AIO I end up getting):

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phan...-frame-bundle-buy-2-get-1-free-ca-07b-pt.html

And possibly an RGB strip for some interior lighting:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-magnetic-rgb-led-strip-400mm-cm-024-pt.html

Is it worth getting a fan hub (potentially looking at 5 fans total) – if so was looking at something like this as won’t be needing the optical bay:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt-sentry-3-touch-screen-fan-control-bb-003-nx.html

Anything I have missed or you would do differently (other than DIY it)? I was looking at upgrading the RAM to the 2x16GB Team Nighthawk 3000MHZ LED that was on offer for £239.99 as can live without RGB for that saving. But I see that RAM is no longer on offer.

Thanks
Simon

just out of interest, have you asked ocuk if they'll build you a full custom spec and warranty the whole spec for you? and how much that would cost?

I haven’t as to be honest I started off looking at DIY and built a list of components and then I came across this prebuild and it was pretty much identical. I then compared total component price vs prebuild price and was very surprised that the difference was minimal. So have had no need to get them to quote for anything else other than to confirm they will change a few small parts if preferred.

Fyi as their spec doesn’t list everything used (such as PSU and Mobo model):

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,163.78 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I think we are crossing wires here. You can customize the prebuild and as you do the price changes to reflect. So if I make the same changes as to what I put in my basket above the total drops down to £2,197.03 which is just £34 more than my basket above but included overclocking, build, OS install and 3yr warranty.

I see there is an option in the build to save another £80 by buying a “Build Stock” single 16GB DIMM Team Group Vulcan T-Force – I believe it’s one of these they have spare from a pair:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...ual-channel-kit-grey-tlgd432g3-my-08p-tg.html

Other than it being 3000MHZ rather than 3200MHZ is there any performance issue that using a single DIMM would cause over a pair or would it actually be better?

I did not realise you could link to the Prebuild including options you have chosen so have now updated my first post to avoid confusion.

ah okay

it'll be slower, because it will run in single channel mode. not by much, but potentially noticeable (3-5%)

also the reason against going pre-overclocked is this:
GCwJyZ6.jpg

99% of 8700k cpus are able to hit 4.9ghz
also from the same website: "As of 12/01/17, the top 72% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 5.0GHz or greater."
(before anyone asks, i know their dates must be wrong :p)

if you're getting a 4.9ghz overclock (don't forget ocuk bin their parts pretty hard), you're essentially paying extra for a bottom of the barrel cpu - if the cpu could go higher, it already definitely would have.

also, in your custom spec, you've specced a £200 mobo, and a very nice £130 psu. unless you can confirm what mobo/psu ocuk are using with the prebuilt, i wouldn't (again) be surprised if the mobo was a cheaper £100-120 variant, nor if the psu was a tier 2 build rather than a tier 1 build.

again, as always, i end with saying: your money, your call. :)

What's the Pre build Link, I think it's an Asus Prime board, there is a Strix only Pre build as well though

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...-core-i7-8700k-4.9ghz-fs-1bw-og.html#t=a3b1g;

The spec does not specifically list exact mobo and psu and I assumed it would be cheapers variants but contacted OC and they confirmed it was the strix Gaming F and leadex 2 gold 850. The Bit Tech review of this prebuild also confirms that:

What do you mean by OCUK bin their CPU’s hard - that if they bin it at 4.9 thats all it will do? If thats the case then not sure its an issue as can’t see me ever wanting to push it any further just to eek out a few more fps and / or benchmark bragging rights.
