Hi guys,

I am in a complete and utter quandary about IPS or 120hz monitor.

I am currently looking at an IPS monitor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-049-AS

It'd fit well with the look of my setup and the speakers are a bonus but not completely necessary.

Alternatively its the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-070-BQ

Now, is it really worth having the benq for increased fps, or is the IPS good enough and worth the 60 fps cap, as 60 fps is surly good enough?

Any advice on pros/cons from owners who have had both perhaps?

Thanks for looking/reading.

I do all sorts with my PC. I do game but I'm the first to admit that I don't play the "super fast FPS" games that often. Also I do not demand the absolute maximum frame rates.
However what I do demand is clean, bright and vibrant colours and simply put a TN panel cannot give you this.
So when looking to replace my failing screen I went for the Dell 2412M and so far have been extremely happy with it.
I have the colours and image quality I demand and I can game. So I'm limited to 60fps - but the rest of my machine means I'm getting that constantly and those 60fps look so nice compared to the 120fps I'd get on a TN panel.
Definitely quality over quantity for me.

I dont feel like i need more than 60fps and the image quality of the IPS vs standard TN panel is definitely worth it, If you need more than 60 you can overclock some panels to get more out of them

Using a Hazro 2560x1440 here. Playing UT3 and BF3 I can't say I ever feel at a disadvantage, and love the colours on the IPS Panel. Mind you, the Hazro has remarkably good response times for the panel type as it does not perform any processing on the image.

I think it boils down to personal preference, I prefer IPS panels as I like to see all the vibrant colours and I do a lot of photography so an IPS panel is a must to be able to see the full gamut of colours. I use a Dell U2410 and its the business, best monitor I have ever bought, not cheap but definitely worth the cost.

For gaming I don't see any lag/tearing at all, so a good solid choice with IPS

Hi gents - thanks for the replies, and thank you for the in depth review Gripen90.

I think that settles it for me, I've always like Asus, and will go for the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-049-AS on pay day

I think I'd prefer a better looking screen over more FPS, and at 60 fps its fine for me anyway. I've heard you can over clock this monitor to around 70/75hz so even that's a small but perhaps noticeable improvement.

Will let you guys know and give it a review here when I get it.

Im tempted to go IPS

from reading review of best TN / IPS monitors for gaming.

Asus 24" VS248H seems to get good calls as an IPS for gaming.

I want the colour more than the 120hz, I've played on 60hz monitors since dawn of time and always OWNED hard at any fps... never affected me. Rather have it looked tons better in games.

Yeah I agree mate. The VS248H looks nice to too be fair. After further review it really is a toss up between the 2..
