Just wondering if the latest batch of games out recently (COD4, Crysis etc) push over the 2GB mark?

What are people peak commit charge when running some of these new games for a while, can someone test please?

BF2 and stalker do. Stalker is ment to be quite a memory hog. Id imagine quite a few of the latest games on vista 64bit will use up more. They may not nessasrly require it on 32bit or xp.

Don't think BF2 uses near 2gb. When it first came out, the recommened was 2gb for completely smooth gameplay, but that was only for the highest textures and at high resolutions.

On XP, you can get away with 2gb for STALKER and Crysis. On Vista, for completely smooth gameplay you would need about 2.5-3gb, but obviously 4gb ram will be more than enough. :)

2GB covers any game in XP since F.E.A.R / CoD2 / BF2.

4GB covers any game in Vista64 Ult.

Obv both cases are for high RES + Max settings,

4GB is cheap as chips today.

From what I am seeing in Vista 64, when Crysis is loaded and the game play has started, there is 2.25gb of memory used out of the 4gb. However, the game play on XP32bit is just as smooth with less than that. I am doing more testing but it seems that Vista will allocate for the game based on the installed amount of memory as it runs well with 2gb also.

With BF2, 2Gb is enough but there are a few people who seem to load a new map 10 sec faster than anyone else; not sure if its 4Gb ram or a raid hard drive.

Hard drive difference, perhaps a raptor or some other fast 10k drive? Or maybe even just a new-gen 7200rpm one..could also be background tasks or even just lower settings.

None that I know of. Maybe Supreme Commander on a giant map, with 7 AIs and 1000 units each...although thats not a setting I'd play anyway.

Hellgate: London starts pagefiling like crazy in certain parts for me.

Same with Crysis so far in early tests I've done. This is with Vista 64 and 4gb of memory with a Readyboost drive attached. At the same time, 2.25gb of memory is used leaving 1.75gb unused while the page file goes haywire.

Hi Yellowbeard while where on the subject, 4GB 2x2GB DDR3. . . . I don't suppose you know if Corsair has got any plans on bringing any out in the very near future?

im 100% sure that BF2 has huge performance increase with 3gb or 4gb ram over 2gig. as in my clan ive heard this statement from 4-5 people, when they upgraded.. however this may be the PR mod only. but its the same engine so prob just all BF2

I dont get that, vista only uses 50mb more then xp so it must have really crap memory management to NEED 4GB over XP's 2GB.
