Just bought a new 77” LG G3 TV…and a PS5 this week…but now I have second thoughts on the PS5 and might send it back…

I‘ve been a casual PC gamer for years and have a steam account and shared access to Game Pass.

I fancy playing a few driving games on the TV and maybe some chilled open world titles….I only play First Person Shooters on the PC with mouse and keyboard.

Anyway I’ve been out the loop for a couple of years and wondered if anyone had first hand experience of Ge Force Now?

My TV supports it…and was wondering if it was a viable alternative to a console…

didn’t know what section to put this in..as it’s PC gaming mainly rather than only console discussion.

cheers

I tried it but the user interface just doesn’t work. When you try to play a game that is not on the first screen, it jumps back to the top and you can’t select anything.

Whether it got an update to fix it, I don’t now. You can certainly try it as there is a free play option but you will be waiting an hour!

EDIT: Just tried it again and it seems to work! Going to try an Xbox Gamepass game.

EDIT2: Booting Starfield - 80 people in the queue @ 1145

EDIT3: Rig ready @ 1151. Need to plug a USB keyboard in so that I can log in with my Xbox gamertag. The TV remote controls the mouse pointer but there is no on-screen keyboard.

EDIT4: In game @ 1157. Looks really nice. 1080p60 only for free but the text is really sharp with no fuzziness, I can’t detect lag unless it’s like 300ms or something and we’re nowhere near that. Whazzed graphics options up to max with DLSS quality. I’m impressed!

EDIT5: Seems the perfect way to play Game Pass games so you don’t have to faff about with Xbox clogging up the PC.

Do you mean GeForce now or is there another thing called GeForce Go?

Anyway, if you're talking about GeForce Now, then I think it works well but I tried it again the other night and since I last used it the servers on the free tier seem to have become a lot more crowded. The price of a subscription also seems to have went through the roof and there was no monthly option available as it was fully subbed up. Minimum was 6 months and the cheapest tier was about £50 I think.

You can also only use it with games you already own so only stuff you have on Steam and Game pass, and while I think it's fine for single player, you'll probably still feel the latency more if playing an FPS. I think you quickly get used to that in single player but it could make multi player very difficult if that's your thing.

An alternative might be to stream directly from your PC to the TV using Moonlight but I've messed about a bit with that and can't get it to work properly. I can see the game working and it feels okay to play but then graphics don't look right, it doesn't seem to like a dual monitor setup and keeps changing the resolution settings on my PC which is a pain in the bum.

I'd spotted the app a few months ago as well on the TV and gave it a go with the free slots on a few different games, from my experience then the image quality was pretty decent, but anything other than slow paced/turn based games was near unplayable (to me at least) due to the latency, some felt like they were at least more than half a second behind my button inputs.

where you on wifi of wired internet and what is your internet speed?

5950x and crap Intel competition pretty much killed of my desire to upgrade every 6 months…

Yes, the Ultimate tier is brilliant technologically, but if there is a problem with a game you have to wait for Nvidia to fix it (and to add HDR which may never happen even if the game supports it). Likewise with drivers, it's up to Nvidia to update them.

That was wired on the Virgin 1Gb line.

Mine is one of the entry level LG Oleds so I know it's game mode isn't as good as the top tier TVs they offer, so that might have played a small factor.

I remember one of the Ghostrunner games being one of the free options as a kind of showcase, that wasn't too bad tbh, Cyberpunk was playable as well. If I remember correctly I think I also tried Doom, Resident Evil 2, Assetto Corsa and Shadow man remastered, they were pretty much unplayable for me.

I'm guessing mileage may vary between setup and how well the game is optimized.

I use it via my Nvidia Shield Pro and use the standard Xbox wireless controller, havent had an issue with it.
I only play racing, platform style games though and dont play first person shooters via it though because without M&K controls I'm basically a walking simulator waiting to be shot in the face.
