Any get out for an accidental auto-renewed app subscription?

I signed up to a fitness iOS app last year for a year subscription, only a month in I had a re-occurrence of an unrelated health issue which meant I couldn't exercise anymore so stopped using the app. I didn't mind that I'd paid a year for something I couldn't use, but definitely didn't want to get charged again, I thought I'd disabled auto-renew because it wasn't in my Apple Subscriptions... but I must have signed up on their site rather than in the app. This morning they took £100 for another years subscription, no email/notification reminder beforehand, I quickly contacted them explaining the situation/mistake but they replied with "We don't offer refunds under any circumstances, no exceptions."

I think I'm out of luck, it's my fault and I'll probably just have to accept the loss but as a last resort just wondering if there are any consumer laws anyone knows I could quote about getting a refund on accidentally auto-renewed subscription? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies, didn't want to name the app yet because it's still ongoing but I've tried contacting both live support and the separate email address they provide and had no luck couldn't find any other ports of contact because I'm not on social media. Don't think I can chargeback because in addition to the fact that they haven't technically done anything wrong (I don't think), it was also paid on a Revolut debit card which probably has 0 protection

Thanks, I will look at that. Probably won't end up submitting one though because I can't risk any marks on my credit as they haven't done anything legally wrong, need to get a mortgage soon.

Lesson learned, I won't be signing up to subscriptions again. Shame it happened right at Christmas.

Did you get a notification or any sort of contact reminding you it was going to auto renew.
No email/notification, just a nice surprise from the bank/revolut this morning saying payment has been taken.

Contact Apple, not the App company.

I’ve had Apple process the refund for me on an iOS subscription. They were very helpful.
Unfortunately for whatever reason I must have signed up via their website rather than inside the iOS app as there's no active subscriptions in my Apple account so it won't be anything Apple could get involved with

Their support must have been having a bad day yesterday or maybe they just checked and saw I hadn't used the account at all after the first week. Contacted them again today and the response couldn't have been any more different, got a £100 refund, a get better soon and hope you might rejoin us one day when you're able. Wasn't expecting that at all because their trustpilot is full of people saying they couldn't get a refund after forgetting to cancel.

Either way, happy days, the nephews Christmas present is back on :D Thanks for all the advice given, still taught me a lesson to use disposable (or at least spend capped) cards for subscriptions and to keep a much closer eye on them.

Also interesting to read about the proposed new laws where companies have to notify you before a subscription renewal, actually sounds like a pretty good proposal for once.
