Me and my girlfriend are currently living in Nottingham.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any nice places worth driving to for a day out.

Its' her birthday tomorrow so it would be nice to treat her to a nice day out.

Cheers

Head up to the Peak District for some good walks and nice scenery (weather permitting, it's no fun in the rain)

Bass (Coors now unfortunately american corporate scum running out the oldest trademark in exsistance british stalwart societecy ramble ramble....) brewery museum in Burton - On - Trent! Whooo! :D

... No you live in Notts/Derbyshire. Sorry. ;)

What is the museum like william? In 18 years of living here ive never been in, only used to admire the old train as a kid when we went past :)

Well it were about 3 years since I last went, probably worth going to pick up some cheep booze, and the visiting Marston's factory for some cheap Peddy and Old Empire as well as going to the Marmite factory to stop this squeezy bottle lark.

Anyway, you go into this sort of room and its got lots of models of men with flatcaps and aprons on heaving sacks of various kinds. There are barrels made of oak everywere and horse wagons and all sorts of brewery paraphenlia. Then you get to look at all the hops and stuff, I nicked some hops and barley despite having a hop plant in the garden for the hell of it and ate them whilst wandering around.

There is a sort of outside bit with all the barrels and stuff and a museum on old transport. For example the oldschool steam train (think it is the Jinny or somthing, pub in Rollestone named after it) and buses with Cadbury's adverstising on the side and posters of moustachied gentlemen advertising Camels in how they kick the Hun and such. Then there is a railway museum in this random building which is like a Giant hornby train network. Despite 90 minutes of trying I don't think you can get them to crash.

Finally there is some wierd form of farmyard Zoo, shirehorses, goats and chickens. The most notable of which is an Afro-hen (see picture at bottom). At the end of it all you got a free pint of Bass, and the price of admission was about £3.50, so its basically 30p to get in.

This was all when it was under Bass though, it has changed to Coors and I don't know what the American ****wits would have done to it by now.

Note to Outsiders:

Whilst Burton - On - Trent is possibly a dump of a town the vast vast majority of all british cosumed, lager, bitter and ale comes from here. So you can thank us next time you suck on your hideous pint of Grolsch! :D

Don't go there, it's rubbish!!! ;)

Alton Towers is about the best in the area. I think you'd struggle to be entertained in either Bakewell or Matlock too I'm afraid :( Lots of nice tea shops but that's about it.

Whatever. There is plenty to do in Matlock and Bakewell. Fantastic scenery minutes away, and of course cable cars in Matlock Bath. I can think of loads of things to do there.

The town aint too bad for a day out and a few drinks in the evening. What's more is the spire which is quite an attraction for many tourists.

If it's scenery your after why not try Curbar Edge or Chatsworth which are both close by. If your on your way to Bakewell stop of Rowsley and treat her to a meal at The Peacock (or if you feel flush The Cavendish at Baslow).
