To tinkering with the insides of a PC. I've generally followed a policy of getting someone else to do it, even if I have to pay them when 'owt needs doing inside the case on my PC, even cleaning. Never wanted to risk messing up my only PC on a first attempt. But with my new PC due at some point (Thank you OC, no thanks to you DPD), I'm going to have an elderly basically working, but undiagnosed BSOD prone PC knocking around, and it occurs that trying to sort it out would be a perfect opportunity to start teaching myself the art of cracking open the case and fiddling around.......So as I say, looking for beginners guides to all that mysterious realm which lurks within the case. Should start with cleaning I suppose if there's anything on that.

When cleaning your PC, make sure that you-

1. Don't let the nozzle touch any components when using a vacuum cleaner.
2. When using a vacuum, stop the fans spinning using a pen or something similar (a pencil is probably a bad idea though because of the graphite).
3. Use an air duster (can of compressed air) but make sure it's blowing out clean air... that sounds kind of weird. What I mean is, the air compressor at you local petrol station would be a bad idea because, chances are, the air it blows out will have bits of grime and dirt.
4. Read and follow the instructions on the air duster (if you use them in the wrong way, than can spray out coolant that can damage electronics).
5. After washing the components, make sure they're thoroughly dry before reassembling. :D
6. Buy dust filters for your case. They're worth their weight in gold... low carat gold though but still.

I'll have a mooch through my bookmarks and see if I can find any good guides for you.
