Any good freeware compilers?

Just reading through a C++ book and wondered if anyone knew of any decent compilers?

Nothing fancy as I am just playing.

DevC++ should do the trick if you don't want to use Visual Studio.

The GNU Compiler is a popular choice.

Maybe so, but they both have compilers with then don't they? I prefer coding in Visual Studio or another IDE rather than just Notepad. No point in two programs when you can do it with one.

DevC++ uses the GCC compiler, so you're still using two programs.

+1 for visual studio express. Micrososft get a lot of stick but the help systems on their products and the info available on the net are superb imo, especially when your're learning.

I agree.

If you want an IDE use Visual Studio or Code::Blocks. If you are running linux I suggest Emacs and the GCC compiler.

Visual Studio is a good place to start.

Oddly enough i had a news item about the Borland compiler today - they have made it available free, although i don't think it includes an IDE.

We use Embarcadero/Codegear/Borland C++ Builder in the office.
