as that's all I'm going to be eating until payday......

Dropped my car off for a new battery this morning and asked them to have a look at a couple of other niggles whilst it was in and I've just handed over £425 :(

All worth it though, the exhaust note is sounding fruitier and though I was only without her for 9 hours I was forced to go for a post garage thrash to "make sure they'd tightened everything up properly" :D

Ouch :(

I need a new battery, want them to take a look at a few things (namely idle control valve and lamda sensor) keep putting it off though as I'm dreading the cost :p (none of it is serious by the way!).

the M5 is going for some warranty work.

i shall rephrase that. i am claiming that it needs a new clutch and flywheel under warranty, lets hope BMW agree. if not i am £1200 poorer. :(

Sorry to say it but I have you all beaten!!

Last Sunday I overtook a car on my way home from a family day out. Either the car was low on oil or has developed a leak but when I slowed for the roundabout I heard a banging and the engine stalled.

Garage has confirmed I have lunched the Main bearings and the repair bill is wait for it!!

2 Grand yes two thousand pounds.

I must admit I could feel tears in my eyes when they told me but what the hell thats cricket. The only consollation was the clutch was nearing the end of its life which is included in the 2K and so is it's major 72k overhaul which was estimated around 6 to 7 hundred quid.

Beans on toast for a year for me.

More details mate! What car, etc? Sorry to hear of your misfortune! :)

Turn your bean eating into a profit by keeping the tins, cutting the bottoms off and with a little welding you can go to McD's car park and sell rude boy exhausts*

* good for at least 20BHP increase

You just reminded me that I need to take out an AA Parts & Labour warranty, just in case the dreaded HGF hits me :).

Need to send my Liz in to have the Stacks looked at, the rev counter's not moving other than the 'wriggle' against the stop when the ignition is turned on :(.

AA is rather good. Friend of mine received a cheque for £475 from them this morning to cover their share of his recent HGF.

Do hope the stack issue is just something simple like wiring. Stacks are not cheap to replace :(

I think it must be a connection, the needle moves when the ignition is turned on just not after that, which to my logical (since when are these cars logical :D) brain suggests that the instrument is fine and the problem is a connection.

Sinclaires have quoted circa. £400 to have the Stacks refurbished, retaining the odo reading, if it does need doing.

It's a 2001 Alfa Romeo 156 Sportswagon 2.0 Twin Spark. Before Xmas I was thinking about selling it but for about 4k (its approx value at that time), but you couldn't really get much that would be same price, spec, year and mileage.

I do love the car and up till now it's been a gem. Just very unlucky.

I know there are plenty of people who will blame it all on it being an Alfa Romeo but the way I look at it that run any car low on oil for one reason or another and you will be looking at a similar bill.
