Hi,

Do you know any *good* program to save/restore icon positions that would work *correct* on main screen when second screen (TV) is enabled and its desktop size is a bit lowered ?

I've tried some, but all of them get stupid once second screen (TV) is disabled/enabled...

I don't want to check all proposed programs, if they don't work correctly regarding to second screen, I hope you would understand and propose just checked already ones :)

Thank you in advance

Have you tried Ultramon? I've used it in the past, along with its "save/restore desktop icon positioning" feature, but i've not used it when changing the resolutions.

Worth a shot I guess!

Ooo.. thanks, guys. I just installed it minute ago, but so far I can see it restores properly icons once 2nd monitor is disabled/enabled + resized + moved to left. Hopefully it will work this way all the time :)

Stardock fences could work for you as well, as the icons stay within their individual fences even with res resizes

No no no....

This Ultramon works fine, but is NOT free.... Fee is about 40$ which makes me angry as I don't need to pay just for proper icon placement. Ridiculous.

Any other, but FREE software, please ? Stardock looks non-free (shareware, trialware), too. It's some stupid idea on webpages not to give customers a clue that program they are about to download & install is free, or not (like stops working after 20-day trial period and requires a purchase)..

Thank you for reply,

I'm fighting with fences and finally, it seems not to be my perfect choice - as I understand, I have to create 2 separate fences - one on each screen.. but there's no option to adjust icons positions in the fence itself. So it looks like auto-arranging icons which is not my option :)

Or maybe I missed some option ?

I use Desktop Restore on our shambolic pos P4 XP machines here at work. It's small and runs flawlessly in the background. No idea how it would perform on a modern OS though.

.. by J. O'Connel :) I use it now, too - because I have to use something.
This software doesn't allow to copy icon positions between profiles, so let's imagine I have to move all icons twice - separately for both profiles (with and without TV plugged in).

There's so many software available and I have no time to check all of them, unfortunately. So sad - such issue with icon positioning might create OS or drivers written down badly :/
