any good space games ?

+1 for TC, it is the closest to the old Elite. It has plenty of dogfighting with about 30 gun types, plenty of missiles, mines etc. You can capture other ships and board the larger frigates/destroyers/carriers. Well worth getting into and if you are stuck the forum is extremely helpful.

but can you land on planets and dock with space stations?how big is the galaxy?
i do not think any space game will match the fun i had playing as Commander Jameson

No you cant land on planets but you can dock with stations. There are over 30 different stations out there, you can even buy and run your own stations.

the galaxy is massive check out the sector map http://eng.x3tc.ru/x3_tc_map/?c=NDQ1MDQxOQ#1

Check out my x3:tc thread lots and lots of info in there http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17931219

yeah i have played the beta of STO didnt think much of it after the first 20 mins , for a NEW game the graphics i think are dire flast and no depth at all to the game

are there different factions in the galaxy?

There are 8 different races.

Argon -
Split
Parinid
Boron
Telardi
Terran
Xenon
Kaahk

There are also generic pirates and a pirate faction call the yaki.
You can aslo work for one of the many companies that exist in the game.

There are a lot of those boxes but their small size makes the galaxy feel anything but massive.

None of the sectors are small, just that some have the jump gates placed close together.:p

Try traveling through terran space and tell me the galaxy feals small.

Thought i would pop in and suggest X3:TC as well.

As a part of the modding community (killerog) the game has some fantastic mods out or in the works that add 100 hours of game play, or just new ships, weapons, effect, sectors races ect.

X3 TC is fantastic despite the fact that Egosoft seem to have gone out of their way to make it as crap as possible. It's like they hired a little man who sits in a small dark room going "That ship capturing is an awesome feature Dev's, now let me craperise it by requiring 7 different sub menus, 4 shortcut keys and for it to only work 50% of the time"

IWar2 and the freelancer series were great but getting pretty old these days. The PC is crying out for some great space games, mmo and singleplayer.
