IWar 2 was fantastic, played it to death. Would love something along those lines to be released.
X3 is a bit weird, great concept just implemented really badly. The worst part was the zones felt so small, never really seemed like space.
Have to agree I tried X3 again just before the New year and it just dosn't give me any feeling of space.
Even when the ship is moving there seems little sense of movement and as for trying to understand forget it.
I just find it annoying and after about an hour I don't feel as I've achieved anything and I certainly haven't enjoyed it.
Also the problem with all space games is that when you in combat feels as if your in a sphere rotating and rolling trying to target a ship.
I've Played I-War and it was ok but I don't think I got very far with I-war2, the same thing with Freespace played one but never got into Freespace 2.
I also tried Tacyon beyond the fringe and Starlancer but lost interest in the first few minuets.
One game I did play twice all the way through was Hardwar but that was planet based so I don't think counts.
So for me the only real space game I liked was Elite on the C64, it was really odd that a wire frame game with not much going on had so much atmosphere.
I think most games over do the interface and don't make the best use of AI.
Elite also felt huge but still manage to give you the illusion of movement, you also felt that if you kept flying you might find something out there.
