So I just finished the remastered demo of gothic 1. It seems to be very well done, I cant wait to play the game again, however I think that it is kind of a dead project because the demo has been out for quite some time already.

Any other fans here?

I've only played the third one (with the community patch), and really loved it.

The Risen series is okay, but much less engrossing imho.

I have been looking forward to the release of the remastered earlier games, so I do hope they make an appearance soon.

Gothic 1 and 2 were really good.
The town in Gothic 2 was possibly one of the best RPG towns until TW3.
English voice acting in Gothic 1 was awful, but I played them all in German anyhow.
The negative really is that playing the Nameless Hero gets boring after a while.
(Found the same problem with the Witcher games as Geralt quickly went on my nerves.)

If you have the patience to give a try to older games gothic 1 and 2 have a way more engaging story than gothic 3. I played everything from the franchize, patches, community patches, gothic 3 forsaken gods dlc, gothic 4 even - which I dont recommend (story starts, you keep walking straight up - cant go left or right in the in between towns environment and eventually you finish the story by walking forward)

Yes, I have heard that. I think the main thing making me hold of from 1 and 2 now is the fact that these remasters are being mooted. It would be great if possible to play them with updated graphics (and I guess modern QoL tweaks).

There are some graphics overhaul mods, so maybe I should give them both a try if the remasters are looking like they've been abandoned. I guess starting with the first makes the most sense (though it looks like the graphics mods for 2 are a bit better)?

I've considered picking them up on several occasions though I have yet to do so. I have played a bit of the demo for the latest one but that's about it.

I can't run the demo on my system, but watching the playthroughs the hero is highy annoying with his descriptive speech.

I've only played Gothic 3, and that was 2yrs ago for the first time. Really enjoyable, but the random enemies are just too strong. No matter how much levelling up i did i'd just get pwned by dogs or skeletons. Having to abuse the game mechanics to win a fight got old. Shame really as loved the music, villages, characters, etc.

I loved 1&2 back in the day, I found the jank quite endearing and the atmosphere was great. I do kind of miss those games where monsters don't scale with you, it certainly made it a challenge until you level up a little and got to grips with how things worked. I played it a couple of years ago with the updated graphics mod and it looked fantastic, it's hard to adjust going back to something that's hardcore compared to today's RPGs.

Gothic 3 I think I only played through once, that was near release when it was a broken mess. It had some really great moments/ideas but I don't think I ever finished it due to some quests breaking down right at the end. I remember the archery and magic feeling great, but sword play felt like you were swinging foam swords at each other. I still mean to go back at some point and play again with all the community fixes/mods, sounds like it's a better experience.

After that I've not really played any of their other games, Risen 1 was ok but the last couple of acts were awful.

I know what you mean when you talk about bugs of gothic 3 :)) couldn't finish it because the fire chalices were missing from my copy initially :))

Something very similar happened with gothic 1 which I couldnt finish without cheats. Right at the end before the fight with the priests of the sleeper I could not pass the bridge without the game crashing, so I had to type Maven in the console I believe and press K or J to just skip forward over the bridge.
