Being an avid RPG fan, of old and new I'm curious about this series, it seems like a marmite game series.

Thing is I tend to like marmite.

I've heard that Gothic 3 with the community patch is cracking, how does it compare to Oblivion in your view?

A summary of your thoughts of the first and second games would be great.

I've heard 4 isn't a *real* Gothic game, but is still decent, but has an almighty bug that can prevent you from completing it, is this still the case?

Any thoughts appreciated :)

Gothic 3 is a great game with the community patch and to be honest it needs it, however G3 suffers from stuttering even on high end systems with SSD's. Gothic 3 also has a lot more varied areas than oblivion and better quests !

However if you haven't i'd recommend you play Risen as the first half will blow you away ;)

As for oblivion it's awesome with mods but then it just becomes a fustrating experience of trying to get them all to work together. I prefer gothic 3 as with gothic 3 i can play for hours but oblivion gets uninstalled pretty quickly.

Less said about Gothic 4 the better, oh and they removed Gothic 4 from the expansion because it isn't really a gothic game :(

Thanks Neil.

Have you any experience with Gothic 1 and 2?

I really did like Oblivion when it first came out, but find it not worth bothering with now.

Yes, I am looking at the pack, it's £20 on Steam and £30 from the river shop...

Lots of experience with 1 and 2, 2 was brilliant and will always have a place in my gaming past :D.

Oh and Gothic 3 Expansion is going to have a complete overhaul soon with a stuttering fix, that's due soon. Probaby just what u need :), so go for Gothic 3 and Gothic 3 Expansion but do not play the expansion till the ehanced edition is ready

Are these all community patches?

Have you got a link to the best(iyo) web site for it?

I just need to finish off Two Worlds II and The Witcher, but my mouse is hovering over the "Add to wishlist" button in Steam for this Gothic pack :)

I only really enjoyed Gothic 1 and 2 (with the expansion pack), and Risen.

Good to know that Gothic 1 might be worth a bash, I've been watching a couple of videos for Gothic 2 and must admit I like the game world and its diversity from what I've seen.

I've had Risen in my wishlist for eons, never seems to come down in price on Steam, I can get the disk for £12 elsewhere though. I really enjoyed the demo, and almost bought it straight after the demo play through.
