My bike is a pain in the behind, if I leave it for a week majority of the time it won't start properly as the battery is flat.

Today I went to go out on it, after being out on it Saturday no problems the battery is flat AGAIN and it will not start.

One morning on my way into work it wouldn't start either (started fine night before). The normal headlight didn't work, no indicators nor rev counter but main beam did.

After doing 0.5 miles the thing cut out slowing down for a traffic light.

AA tried to jump it but the battery wasn't taking the charge at all, the garage couldn't find anything wrong with it as it started fine when they had it to look over.

Anyone have any ideas? I am really losing my rag with it now, its done 8000 Miles from new and has spent most of its life in a garage.

Rapidly falling out of love with it

Sounds like nothing more than a knackered battery to me. Does it have an alarm? has it been allowed to totally drain? Bike batteries are more sensitive than car batteries. If it won't hold a charge it doesn't sound like the bike's fault!

Yep, battery. Replace the battery if a good charge won't sort it, from the sounds of it the battery has past it anyway and is dead.

Have you used a optimate on it? Basically, you plug it in when you're not using it for long period of time (e.g. longer than a week) and it keeps your battery topped up and healthy.

If you don't have one, get one.

If a new battery doesn't sort it, I'd look at the regulator next.

The battery has been replaced and not very long ago as it was an issue for a while so it was the first thing I changed.
Yeah it does has an alarm as well.

I don't get why it starts fine one day and now its flat :/

Currently do not have power in the garage so when it doesn't start like now I have to reel the extension lead out there to do it

A dodgy alarm can kill a new battery in no time. You might be able to exchange the battery under warranty, but if there is an issue with the bike draining it, then same will happen.

As the battery sounds duff now, you can't do much fault finding until it has a working one.

Could also be the alternator is iffy, not charging while riding is generally alternator issues as it cant pump out enough juice to charge battery and deal with running load.

Is the bike still under warranty? If so, back to the dealer/garage asap.

You might have a dead regulator/rectifier unit, failure of these is far from unknown. Measuring the voltage across the battery with engine running should give you a clue here.

As dogbreath says, probably a knackered regulator and these break frequently. Start the engine and set the revs to about 2000-3000 rpm and stick a multitester across the battery terminals. You should be getting about 14 volts DC, if not, then theres insufficient voltage reaching the battery so its not charging. If you've got 14v, then the battery more than likely needs replacing.
