MSI P43 Neo-F mobo

No beeps..and the hdd light is on yes, but obviously as i cant see anything i cant install OS

Actually Dont think its a hdd light, looks more like a power led or something
Antec 900 dont know if that helps?

Motherboards usually give out a series of beeps to help diagnose what the problem is. If you had a speaker connected I'm sure it'd give some kind of beeps.

Next thing to check is the power connectors.

You should have 2 power connectors from the PSU to the motherboard connected. A big 24 pin one, and an 8 pin aux.

The graphics card may or may not have a power connector. If it needs one make sure it's connected.

yea, the large 24pin one and the 8pin aux are situated together arnt i believe,
As for the graphics card, i think it just gets its power direct from the motherboard, as the fan works fine on it and there doesnt seem to be a power connecter on it

Well, I've just read the manual, which was useless.

http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp

That contains the beep codes, and also a rather large list of things you can try to see if they work.

If it's a faulty component though you're going to struggle to identify what it is between the motherboard, CPU, ram and graphics card.

You wouldn't happen to have a speaker in another PC you could move to the new one?

doesnt MSI mobo's have a compatability issue with HDD's 1TB? I remember reading an article saying that the MSI G33's and others suffer from this. Might be worth investigating more. Sorry cant be much more help! Hope you find a solution:rolleyes:

Shouldn't stop it posting.

All the same you can disconnect the drive, and boot it. Just the SATA cable from the motherboard is fine.

Ok thankyou The halk
Do you mean another little BIOS speaker or whatever it is?

And danny, Surely the hdd wouldnt have anything to do with the fact there is no picture would it?

Thankyou both

It's not a BIOS speaker. It's just a standard PC speaker that all PCs for as long as they've existed have come with.

Until sound cards everybody just had the speaker.

It plugs into your motherboard (your manual will tell you where) and is usually stuck with a sticky pad inside the case, or it's magnetised to stick to the side of it.

I have one somewhere, but I've not connected it.

The reason there is no picture is the PC won't "post", lots of things could cause it not to post.

Tried connecting via DVI rather than VGA ? You usually get a converter dongle thing with most grafix cards.
How about swapping the ram about, try it with just 2 sticks in, also disconnect any drives you have attached to see if they're causing the problem.

I'd have another try at plugging headphones or speakers into the speaker socket of the motherboard. Plug em in, make sure they're on, turn the PC on and listen in case you hear something. I'm certain both Award and AMI BIOS put the beeps to the headphones... which should mean yours will too.
