I've come into some money and have finally got the chance to get something I've wanted for years which is a great gaming pc. I'm aiming to spend about £1500 on it but would like to get a monitor included in that price (I can get a decent one for £150) however if a worthwhile upgrade would push me back upto £1500 i'd be willing to spend the money.

I was just wondering what components would i be wanting to make the most of my money? I know next to nothing about choosing what components to purchase and i know you all know your stuff.

Thanks for any advice given :)

in all honesty spending that much is a bit overkill atm and you may live to regret it once the new consoles are out and higher specced ports start rolling on the pc.

really all you need at the moment is a nice i5k, good 4gb of ram and a half decent mobo, the rest (case, psu etc) can really be up to you but £1500 is just crazy money.

1 x Sony Optical DVD Writer, AD-7260S-0B, SATA, Black, OEM @ 16.43GBP

This lot set be back £940 - add yourself a 1TB HDD for storage and a decent CPU cooler and your looking at £1050

I then went for two Dell U2311H monitors @ £200 each so not far off your budget.

Of course if you don't want two monitors, you could just buy one and get a top end graphics card.

add a cooler, and your chosen monitor. change the case to something you prefer. you have an option of crossfiring the hd6870 if needed in the future.
should roughly come around to £850-900. if you really want you can add an SSD
save the rest of the money

.

Thats still a couple of years away but to an extent I agree, £1000 can buy you a machine that will play anything out there with ease let alone £1500

I've done a smilar build this week.
Silverstone Raven 3 case.
i5, 2500K
Asus Sabertooth mobo.
Corsair H70 cooler.
8Gb RAM.
EVGA 570 SC.
120 GB- OCZ - SSD
1TB HD - Samsung Spinpoint
850W Corsair HX PSU (Spent more than I needed, but love Corsair warranties and want to SLi in the future)
Boogie mouse mat.
windows 7 Pro 64.

hit £1400 with that I think. with some change to spare.
i7 - not worth the price increase, unless you really need Hyper Threading.
580/590 - not worth the extra £100 for the 10% increase. and the 590 is a gimmick.

It'll run everything this year very nicely (And next year, and the year after with an SLi), but also I couldn't afford to wait, as still running a core-duo, and graphics card artifact'ing all over the place.

So i shouldn't be spending loads on this computer? Is it not worth getting something like a GTX 590?
nooooo, dont get a 590. they are really noisy, almost as hot as a mcdonalds apple pie, and are a lot worse than what they are based on (two GTX580's in SLI)

something like this will do you fine:
