I am using a Linux Mint live cd as my xp operating hd died and as my xp never came with a disc I am looking at installing win7. Problem is that I have the iso OEM of Win7 on my working hd and I was wondering if I could use Linux Mint 7 to burn this to a dvd and then just install win7?

I don't see why not. With Linux this is usually a lot easier than in Windows too. Boot from Mint, mount the working hard drive, and right-click the ISO; you should get an option to burn the image. It depends on whether Mint 7 comes with the required tools but it probably does.

However that depends on you having two optical drives. If you only have one, you'll have to boot Mint from a USB or something instead. Or even do it the other way around - burn the ISO to a USB stick. That assumes Win7 can be booted from a stick, mind.
