my laptop has an i5 430m 2.26ghz 1066mhz fsb, but my laptop is 3-4yrs old and i was just having an idea of replacing it as disc drive is broke, needs new battery, usb ports got damaged so hit and miss, catch is broke, power cable is loose when plugged in, trim doesnt sit flush anymore(maybe i shouldnt have taken it apart to clean lol) and since a reset things have been abit bleh with performance, still good like it used to, but not really much better like id have hoped..

whether i sort things out or not, i dont know what if anything the laptop be worth if i was to try sell, but as a replacement id want to stick with dual core and preferably more than 2gb ram and a dedicated gpu(although only game on facebook and some other web based) and i like the i processors, just wouldnt know if going to an i3(new or old) be a big downgrade or not at all..

New i3 processors sandy or ivy deffo won't be much of a downgrade. Though I'm not sure as laptops aren't up to much for gaming considering the i3 range. If you want a dedicated gpu, you're probably going to have to spend a bit for a well configured new laptop.

Are there any trinity APU laptops available? Maybe that would suit your needs better, whilst being cheap.

i dont game other than web based now, but thanks for the reply..

thats interesting to know because i thought all i3 processors were quite weak to i5's or is that merely the case in proper pc form?..

my gpu in my laptop is a mobility hd 5470 and while it might not be the best now or ever was, i could play WOW and StarCraft 2 both on very good(highest pretty much from memory) with only very slight lag at odd times, couldve been down to connection also, but the likes of NFS:Shift and MW2 both played on max and both played beautifully and i had Team Fortress 2, Boarderlands and World of tanks that i know would require some pretty good level of spec, it even handles a demo of F1 2013 spot on too, so its quite an impressive laptop, but because of faults and the fact those games(most bar wow and SC2 are on Steam) will eventually go on a SFF im going to upgrade over time, i dont really need all of what the laptop offers, but obviously sell up or just buy anyways, id still want something fairly quick thats why i was curious about the i3's ;).
