Occasionally i turn my monitor off via the power button on the monitor but leave the pc switched on, i'm getting the following message when i turn the monitor back on after its been switched off whilst using displayport, this doesn't happen when its connected via a Dual link DVI cable. If you reboot the PC their is no error message, its only happening if you switch the monitor off for a short time then switch it back on. Any ideas what the error is ?

Could be a driver issue (you should install monitor drivers if you're using DisplayPort) or faulty DisplayPort cable.

I used to get these errors now and then with my old 6970 and dell 2408. Changing the cable stopped the problem for me. Had a bizlink one first and replaced it with a molex branded one. (Not that I think the brand makes a difference)

My GPU is a single Sapphire 7970 3GB Vapor X, as i said it doesn't do it with a Dual link DVI cable.

I'm thinking that its something to do with when you turn the monitor off at the power button, for some reason when you turn it back on it doesn't fully detect the Displayport cable, it still displays 2560 x 1440 but their maybe an error in the way the monitor detects the cable when you power it off and then turn it back on.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else with an Asus PB278Q if their's does the same with the displayport cable attached.

Mine does this too, occasionally. Usually when the monitor switches off after the screen saver.

I ignore it, as it doesn't seem to really make a difference to its use. I think that the message pops up in the couple of seconds before the PC/Monitor syncs up and switches on, so when you see the message it is already redundant.

My 6990 and Samsung monitor gave that error sporadically for seemingly no reason. I had no problems with dl-dvi. I haven't tried dp with my 290x since I had problems booting to Windows when monitor was set to 120Hz so stayed with dl-dvi

Yes had this happen on a AMD based Rig but switching the Asus PB278Q monitor and same cable over to a Nvidia based Rig and no issues. This would seem to be a problem with some AMD GPU cards not all.
