Any idea?

You need an ivy bridge cpu to enable pci-e 3.0, you also do not lose or gain anything in a 2 card setup with any of todays current cards.

Oh so i need ivy cpu! (Can always update later, also wonder if the next gen chips will support this board) but would that bois enable PCI-3 on this board? would there be much improvement with PCI-3 + cards in the real world?

Worth getting you think ?

Cheers

P.S I noticed your got a i5 2500k are these better for gamming then the i7 2700k

Ok thanks for your help guys! I would get a Z77 but he will be selling for nice saving for me! hence why i thought i go for that setup with my 2x 6970's.

Much difference between that board the the Z77?

Will be over £400 + if i go new!

Cheers :)

That particular Z68 board has no IGP display connectivity, so no Lucid support/Quicksync and a solution to fall back on if you have a issue with one or both GFX cards.

Its a capable overclocker (depending on the CPU/cooling)

Not really sure what that means lol
IGP display connectivity, no Lucid support/Quicksync Will i be missing out?

If it was you stu, what would you do. it's to go with my 2x6970's.
Worth going for for gaming!
He wants around £335 for

16gb hyperx 1600mhz ddr3
gigabyte ud5
oem 2700k

I want it to last at least 2-3years, but upgrading the card intime.
I had a x58 for 3 years!

Or shall pay new and get
I5 2500k and z77 board with 16gb hyperx 1600mhz grey i already have

Or i7-3770K Ivybridge z77 board with 16gb hyperx 1600mhz grey

I want a good 4.7 4.8 if i can? i have a Prolimatech Black Megahalems http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-019-PL&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395 or get someother cooler.

Not sure what to do really lol

Does this look worth getting. seeing i have the ram already?

Do you still have the X58 and i7 CPU?

I think you should keep using it until Haswell comes out next year.

What's going to be about Haswell?

I only have the chip left, as the board died and i got refund :)
Would mean buying another X58 board, so thought i'd upgrade?
Cheers.

Ah, you might as well sell the chip and buy the Ivybridge (3570K) and Z77 board then, if you had a working PC using the X58 platform I would have said keep it, as spunking £300 to upgrade would have left you felling disappointed at the gains.

Haswell is a new chip+chipset due next year that uses a new socket yet again.

Next year!! lol ages away.
Thanks for your help stu! i read that some were saying, that when they went from x58 to z77 and 2500k etc as bf3 is more cpu. they noticed the min fps in BF3 were a lot better, which helped with smoother game play. i noticed BF3 min fps made it less smooth for me @ 1920x1200.

Hoping the upgrade will help if i get @ 4.7/8.

So you think Ivybridge (3570K) chip is the one to go with. i hear these run hot tho. wouldn't i be better with the i5 2500k? for gaming, or does the 3570k better with games? i'm sure you know best :)
what board tho.

Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Intel Z77 ?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-388-GI

It needs to be taken in to context,

A 3570K is about 10% faster clock for clock than a 2500K, so a 4.5Ghz 3570K is equal roughly to a 4.7GHz 2500K

They do run hot when the Vcore reaches a certain value, also running Intel Burntest is best avoided, for everyday use they are fine and how often do you stress your CPU like Prime95/Burntest can?

With prices so close between a 2500K and a 3570K, why wouldnt you pick the newer tech? it has a better HD4000 built-in IGP, Gen3.0 and a better memory controller.

As for which board, I may have a UD5H (WiFI version) but this is a bargain - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-389-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261

I see what u mean!

Ok, think i'll go for the 3570k.
That board is out of stock! is there much different in that and the UD5H stu?

Shall i just get the UD5H then?
And would that system work ok with Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 16GB (4x4GB)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS
Do you have the same chip 3570k?

And you think my cpu cooler will be ok?

Greatful for your help :)

Cheers.

Any chance you could send me some setting to clock it to 4.5/4.7 please :)
Boards so different to what i'm used to lol

Be very greatfull ;)

Thanks for your help mate!

Great board.. my first chip was bad!! got another which is spot on @1.30v i left it @132v
Temps are fine. games didn't hit 61.

As for my ram! i have Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 16GB.
The default was showing 1333. so i clicked on profile which give me 1600mhz. the volts are 1.65v should this be lower. should i lower the timming? also should it be set to T1?
9.9.9.27 T2.

Cheers :)
