Any ideas for a core upgrade?

Hi chaps!

In around a week or so I'll be replacing my CPU and Motherboard but can't really put my finger on what to get for the budget I will have.

I'm currently rocking an i5 3570K, ASUS Z77 Sabertooth, Corsair H80i, 4x4GB Corsair Dominator Platinum (1600MHz).

Recently I've started doing a lot more 3D modelling recently but I'm still a huge gamer, especially on simulators which require a lot of CPU power so overclocking is important to me.

I'll have a budget of around £400 (I will push £500 if I really think necessary but don't really want to) for CPU and Motherboard.

I use a GTX660Ti right now but I'll be upgrading that later in the year and will eventually go into SLI so that will also be important to me.

Thanks in advance guys! ;)

Have you overclocked your CPU yet? IB i5s are still very good CPUs and I'm not sure you'd gain that much from upgrading to Haswell :/ As you mentioned 3D modelling perhaps getting a 2nd hand 3770K would be better?

As said above, Grab a 3770k. Haswell isn't wortyh the money from Ivy.

The only other option is to splash out £600+ on a 4930k and a X79 setup
My suggestion would be.

  • Grab a asecondhand 3770k
  • Overclock it high. :)
  • Grab a NEW GPU, 780 maybe.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions, I might just keep my current setup entirely and wait until sometime early 2015 to do an upgrade then. I'll also have a look at 3770K's and see what's lying around.

Thanks :)

I think thats the most sensible option to be honest. Is your 3570k overclocked? That will give lots of free performance if it isnt.
