A friend has just dropped his pc round saying it wont boot up. We have checked his monitor, g/card and ram and these are all fine. When you turn it on all the fans start up (although they seem to be running very quick) but it won't boot and the optical drives won't eject, however if you take the ide cable out of the back of them they work/eject fine. Its an Advent 3.4 pentium on a msi mobo with a 450w jeantech psu. Any ideas/help gratefully recieved.

If its definitely not any of those components it must be either the motherboard or processor...or perhaps the PSU....no real way to tell unless you can test his processor on another system or another known working cpu on his system. Do you get any beeps?

well you have your own pc, just stick in your psu into his while it is at yours and tell us the good/bad news.

but only powerup the main things, dont bother with cd/flpppy drives etc, just main board hdd, gfx

that way it should put your psu under any strees
