A friend has just dropped his pc round saying it wont boot up. We have checked his monitor, g/card and ram and these are all fine. When you turn it on all the fans start up (although they seem to be running very quick) but it won't boot and the optical drives won't eject, however if you take the ide cable out of the back of them they work/eject fine. Its an Advent 3.4 pentium on a msi mobo with a 450w jeantech psu. Any ideas/help gratefully recieved.

Hmmm,

Usual approach would be to drop everything out of the case except for:

Motherboard
CPU
RAM

See if it'll post then, if not, hit the BIOS Reset jumper, and try again, if that'll get you to post, then feed back in the main HDD and see if you can make it to the OS, when that's sucessful, feed the remaining hardware back in item by item until you have a fully rebuilt system booting to the OS.

If no post with just the necessary hardware and a BIOS reset, then come back again?

Ok, have disconnected everything leaving just the cpu, mobo, g/card and ram, reset the bios (took batt out) and it still starts up but no post/boot screen.
