Hi

I came home tonight and switched on my computer. It booted up but didn't post, there was no beep and no display. This is not the first time this has happened and each time the solution has been to re-seat the RAM. After that it works fine, This is the first time in over a week it has happened though and I have run memtest with no errors reported and checked hard drive for problem but none were found.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Full specs are

Athlon II x3 445 3.1Ghz
Asus M4A78LT
2x2GB Corsair XMS3
GTX 460 SOC
Coolermaster GX550W
1TB F3 Samsung

Not overclocked but I did initially enable ACC to try and unlock the dormant core but this failed(actually a similar problem to the current one - not posting)so I didn't bother and disabled it.

make sure the ram slots are clear of debris and inspect for signs of damage. also be sure to push at edges to ensure the modules are fully clicking into place and not only just touching the pins.

Ok i'll give that a whirl.

I mean, it's not a consistent problem and once the machine gets going it's fine. I keep expecting to get a blue screen at some point if it's memory but I've gamed for a good few hours(30+) over the last week with it and had it constantly running all weekend and it never messed up once so I'm stumped tbh.

Not a major issue but obviously if it is a hardware fault I'd prefer to nip it in the bud sooner rather than later.

Hi sorry to revive this old thread.

Where I'm at with this now: RMA'd the memory and it was found to be faulty, got new ram. I'm still having the same problem of not posting. Upped the voltage to 1.7 under advisement from a friend, this seemed to solve the issue and I did a few tests and everything seemed stable. But the problem arose again. I've ran overnight tests on this ram at 1.5, 1.65 and 1.7 and I get errors on all though at 1.7v there were considerably less errors for some reason.

I'm really at a loss here. Because although memtest is returning errors, the system runs fine once it finally gets into windows. I keep expecting a BSOD but it never comes.

My short term solution when it fails to post is to unplug it for 30 seconds and hold the power button in. I don't know how or why this works. Someone did mention something to do with power.

Looking at the QVL for this motherboard this memory isn't supported, there is some other corsair ram that is similar but that sasys it requires 1.8 and I'm not sure I should be upping it to that.

Also, there are only two dimms on the motherboard, I mention this because I don't know whether this may be playing a facor.

This motherboard is quite picky with ram. 1.7V is high for DDR3. If memtest is returning errors, check each stick individually and RMA the bad stick(s). I would try GEIL as this worked for me when I built one of these for a friend. His corsair was faulty also.
