The thought had crossed my mind to upgrade or replace my current system.

I know that whenever you buy new tech, there will be newer/better a week later, it's the way.

But, what tech is in the imminent future, that would be worth holding out for? I recall reading there are new generation AMD and Intel cpu's around the corner. New memory and storage media coming soon too, if I read correctly.

Are there any amazing new advances worth holding out for, within the next year or so? I'm not fully read-up on what's new and coming soon in this area.

Intel Kabylake is starting to show its face but it's no major improvement over the 6th generation skylake.

AMD Zen has been teased but the higher end models haven't officially been announced yet.. they should be out by January but i doubt it will exceed the power of the intel rival.

Pascal Nvidia GPU's are now standard although the 1080ti should surely be announced at some point over the next month or so.

AMD has Polaris GPU architecture with its RX series cards that perform very well but still nowhere near the Nvidia counterpart. But the Vega architecture is being teased for release within the first quarter of 2017.

That is about it really.
