It has been confirmed through The Hollywood Reporter that 20th Century Fox has bought the rights to bring the game to film. The Max Payne movie was originally slated for release in April 2007, but production has been delayed. Going under the name of Max Payne: Payne and Redemption, the movie has been scheduled for a 2007 release. Max Payne is played by Nigel Billing.
