I was considering getting windows 7 and never really imagined having any issues running it on my comp. These are my specs. -

x6800 dual core running at stock
2x1 gb C4 6400 corsair ram
900W tagan psu
2 x 8800 EVGA GTX
EVGA 780i *** edition
Win XP 32 bit

I never thought it would be an issue but then according to the MS website, if I want to run the 64 bit I need min. 2 gb ram and then an additional 1 gb if I need XP compatibility.

Is that an overestimation on their part or do I really need that? I know the 2 gb meets the min. but I don't really wanna run anything on low. Currently on XP I can run whatever I need to (games wise) on the highest settings. Would running windows 7 and games on it be an issue with my specs?

You'd only need the extra 1GB if you plan on running XP mode, which only comes with pro and above. Though to be honest you really should upgrade to at least 4GB of RAM, you have to be hitting the page file with only 2GB of RAM on that system if you're playing newer games on max settings.

I've run x64 Windows on 1GB of RAM and it's not that bad. Although I certainly would say the recommended minimum is 2GB.

My main rig is running Windows 7 x64 RC and plays games fine at high resolutions (8800 GT) with 2GB RAM. Go for it.
