Any issues with HDMI splitters?

I am going to split my PC output to both my monitor and my TV for Big Picture mode in Steam. I will only be using one at a time so no need to have both screens independant. Will there be any issues running both from a HDMI splitter from my graphics card? Any lag or loss of quality or anything?

What's the resolution of your monitor, what GPU do you have, and which native outputs does it have? May well be a better way to do it than a splitter =)

I have an ATI something (can't remember the exact model). Its got DVI x2 and HDMI.

At the moment I have a couple of old 1440x900 monitors connected to DVI and my 1080p TV connected by HDMI. I have a shortcut to a script that turns off the primary monitor, turns on the HDMI output to the TV, switched the audio device to use HDMI out and opens Steam in big picture.

I'm going to get a 1080p monitor so don't need to worry about changing primary monitor if they both run the same resolution (monitor and TV), I could just mirror the HDMI out across both screens. I could have course just keep the script I have too, as I'd need to still swap the audio.

My card won't do 3 outputs at once, it can only have 2 of the 3 active at any one time, hence the switching.

Yup, you can only run three displays at once if you're using DisplayPort or an active DP converter.

No need for a splitter, I'd say. I have a similar set-up, two 1080p monitors on my desk over DVI, and a TV over HDMI. Using the CCC preset functions, and making sure you've set the HDMI Audio output to default, you can quite easily switch from dual monitors to a single monitor and TV, or just the TV on its own.

A splitter would only be useful in this case if your PC only had one video out (unless you REEEAAAAALLLLYYYY need 3 screens on concurrently whilst you're gaming?)

The TV and PC are in different rooms. The connection to the PC is a 15m HDMI cable and a wireless Xbox pad :p. Who needs a Steam Box ey? :D

I think I will stick with my current setup of a script to swap which output is used for the primary monitor. I need to keep it anyway for the audio and Big Picture Mode script, so its not any hassle.
