I'm having a slow down on my iMac recently and I'm pretty sure its because I transfered 150GB onto it. Including Music, Video & Movies.

When it initially loads, it was very quick, but now its slowed down really bad, and whats more the hard drive is working overtime! Even after the desktop's finished loading you can still hear it for a while?

Very disturbing!

:(

Yeah, automatically defrags itself so no need.

Try running Onyx and the "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly" script in Terminal.

It's probably still defragging the 150Gb you stuck on there. That would be why you can hear the HDD chugging away when you believe the machine to be idle.

I personally use the "Sudo periodic daily" command in Terminal.

Oh, and empty the cache folders in the library folder(S).
