A new role has popped up at work, and it looks very interesting and very much my cup of tea, but I'm not sure if I have the right skill-set for it or not.

I do loads of analysis in my current role, but it is either project or workflow management based. I don't really have any experiencing the the world of marketing beyond helping the marketing teams set up better reporting for telephony based campaigns.

Wokring through large data-sets and pulling insight from them is my bread and butter, but my understanding is that in world of marketing, things are quite a bit more wooly due to the likes of brand awareness, halo effect, etc. Way more grey areas.

Anyone able to give some personal experiences in the field?

Thanks

Depends on the datasets you're handling, the product or service you're marketing and how useful/useless the marketing department is.

Generally speaking it's no different to any other analyst role because the marketing department will account for anything outside of the hard data. You provide the facts, they provide the insight.

Had a chat with my manager, and he thinks I would rock that position (obviously would rather not lose me from his team, but at the same time wouldn't hold people back from progressing).

Application submitted, eek!
