Hi all,

I have a couple of issue's with my 2000 1.6 Petrol Zafira, Firstly the last couple of days the engine has started to sound a bit "rattly" when idling and revving, Could it mean Tappets needs adjusting? Is it likely to be due to the Timing belt being changed around 3 weeks ago?

Secondly i have both the front suspension springs replaced 3 weeks ago but going over speed bumps it makes a strange squeaky noise, Is this normal for new springs?

Thanks

They have hydraulic tappets so aren't adjustable. They get noisy due to lack of oil changes usually. An oil change should help this, if it's been done recently then they'll need cleaning out which is a reasonably big job (cams out).

Springs wont squeak, most probably the shocks or a rubber bush such as the anti-roll bar bushed making the noise.

rattle could be if a component is loose/ hasnt been refitted properly.
does the engine perform properly since the belt change? if the timing is out, that can also cause knocking/rattling too

Full Service including oil change about 3 weeks ago also, It has been fully serviced every single year, It didnt make these noises before the oil change and cambelt change.

Maybe ill drop it at the garage tomorrow and see what they say.

Typical it stopped making the taping noise this morning, I am going to check the oil levels when my wife brings the car back, is the fact it doesn't always make this noise help with pinpointing the issue?

OK I checked the oil and it was very low, did not even register on the dipstick, I have now added over a litre of oil and all is fine, no idea where in 3 weeks over a litre.of oil is gone after the service? Any ideas?

Also for some reason the what I thought was suspension squeek has gone, surely this cannot be due to having the correct amount of oil in the car?
