A few months ago I was asked if I knew of any mobile DJ's. I remembered that a friend had picked up a half decent setup 2nd hand but didnt have a clue on how to use it.

I borrowed the equipment and did my first 'gig' which went very well.

Was thinking about maybe doing this for friends and friends of friends etc as a bit of extra money.

What do I need to do to make it official so charging isnt an issue.

More than anything I really enjoyed it, especially playing music that the guests wanted rather than the usual pre- selected party cheese and mambo No5-esque songs.

Anyone else do this?

hi there well i have a mate who runs a very large disco more like a mobile nightclub!! very well known in notts birmingam, leicester.you will need to get Public Liability Insurance Cover, Electrical Safety PAT Tested Equipment.then on top if you do it ligit then you have to declare your earnings ect.Danny did my wedding and all our faimly weddings xmas partys ect.

Thanks for the info.

Would like to see one of his 'shows' as it looks like an amazing setup.

I'm more than happy to stay as a fill in for friends and family for the time being. Plus it gives me some decent experience.

I'm a mobile DJ, drop me a pm if you've any questions. I can talk rubbish about kit all day long:)

If you're only doing one or two gigs I wouldn't worry about PAT initially, I've been for it asked once in the last six years. It's not a legal requiremnet, once your up and running then it's something to do, I have a fell that does all mine for £50.

As for PLI, that's cheap enough and in many instances you get free when you insure your euipment against theft. This is worthwhile as your kit may not be covered by house insurance.

The main thing for you to do is perfect your show and music collection. I'd also so say start with quality kit, buy 2nd hand if need be and get stuff you can build on.
