Any monitors that convert 2D content to steroscopic 3D?

As the title asks. Since there are 3Dtv's that can do this at the touch of a button, i'm curious if anything is available like this but as a 3D monitor rather than tv, if not what is currently the best 3D monitor available (in terms of the steroscopic 3D effect) i'm looking to buy one, so any help is appreciated :)

Nope, no monitors do this AFAIK.

Mainly because monitors do as little singnal processing possible to keep input lag down, and all the clever work is done by the very powerful graphics card.

The "best 3D monitor available" is a tough one. The Alienware AW2310 is usually considered the best, while this one is also rather good. At a lower size, price and resolution this is also a very good bit of kit.

Please bear in mind that with the current implementation (Nvidia 3D vision) you will only be able to use these monitors to play PC games, connecting up other 3D sources (such as 3D Blu-Ray players, 3D sky TV and 3D PS3) will not work correctly in 3D. It will also require you to have a modern (and powerful) Nvidia graphics card.

there are some programs which will do it

although 2D to 3D conversion is frankly the worst tech ever, easiest way to explain it is that when you do 2D to 3D conversion you're basically making 2=1

Aye, I believe one of the programs is called "TriDef". However, I really wouldn't invest money in this tech.

Ever gone to the cinema and watched one of these films that have been converted to 3D in post production? Did the effect convince you?

Well that takes a few weeks to do for a full film using a load of powerful computers. If your desktop computer is doing that in real-time then the quality can be expected to be even worse.
