Any "Music Server" apps that will let me stream music to my phone, and sync an offline copy?

Long story short, I've had things like Google music, Spotify, Deezer etc, but I'd like to avoid paying monthly all the time to get decent offline sync for music.

Ideally I'd like something that would either turn an RPI device into a music server or run as a package on my NAS, with a mobile app that lets me stream the music and sync it offline to the phone for when I'm out and about without any signal.

Anything about that may achieve this?

Answered my own question here somewhat I think - Subsonic looks like it would do the trick, but it's all gone a bit crazy there recently with the developer going from open source to closed source.

I can recommend Subsonic for this.
I've been using on my little Microserver for years, without any trouble. Converts FLAC to MP3 with no trouble, and handles podcasts very well.
