After playing Freelancer for a bit i had a hankering for the good ole days of Seadogs (a piratey freeroaming sailing and plundering type game).

AND also failing miserably to get Pirates of the Caribbean (essentially seadogs 2) working on this intel integrated graphics :(

Was wondering maybe there is a kickstarter or steam early access game which is like these games? Maybe bring them up to date?

Anyone know of any recent piratey type games like this...(not including Black Flag or Risen 2 or the "disney" Pirates remake of the classic Pirates!)

Heres something piratey to get you in the mood :D

Not sure if you're into MMO's but reading about Archeage it's got a heavy focus on ship warfare and it seems you could pretty much band together with other folks and just play it to be a pirate of the seas :)

Another MMO related one is EVE online. Piracy is prevalent and oh so fun. However, it is a huge time sink and certainly not a pick up and play game.

Why did you discount Black Flag ? possibly the best ever pirate game for battling at sea, everything works flawlessly with realistic fighting, boarding & sinking of enemy ships etc. The previous AC game where they first introduced the navigable ships was pathetic by comparison & no way comparable

Think i would prefer a more ground based pirate game with little emphesis on the ship based. Simple combat and mainly getting from a to b would be all id wana do ship wise. Actually about pirate ships, has there ever been a game where you can walk about your ship while it sails the open seas and you can talk to ur crew like a adventure game and go exploring the ship like under the deck etc?

You can walk about the ship on Black flag although if you leave the helm the ship will stop, you can jump overboard & swim to another ship or swim to shore & explore tropical islands & fight soldiers, even swim with Dolphins in some parts, also go below deck to change costume & weapons etc. I can't praise that game enough, incredible achievement really

ac4 is good, even without playing the storyline [reccomended though you "meet" some famous faces of piracy] but the sailing, fighting, and taking of ships is great not to mention exploring [and yes treasure hunting] on land and basically being awesome.

in terms of putting you in the position of being a pirate ive not seen or played anything that has it all like ac4.

ac4, why make it a assassins game if the majority is pirate based they should have just had a wanabe pirate as the main character. Ac4 might be nice and all but playing as the assassin puts me right off as i dont really like ac games.

If you mean Bethesda's Pirates of the Caribbean, try the mod- New Horizons. It fixes hundreds of things and adds features like inverted mouse (!) and widescreen resolutions. It might fix your intel problems.

It's a really nice game when you get into it.

Sorry dude you are wrong it is the best pirate game ever!

Oh and pirates sail boats so pirate games tend to have them in :)!

It doesnt work with intel graphics. Theres supposed to be a fix but havent been able to get it to work. Its a well documented problem with POTC (basically engine crash message when you try to start a new game...the menu loads up fine)

But it seems Black Flag gets a lot of love in the Piratey nether regions so might give that a go when it comes down in price a bit :D

If you don't get this you will miss out on -without doubt- the best pirate game ever & risk being made to walk the plank :p
I'd say it's the least 'Assasin' based game of the four, you can mostly ignore the story & sail & plunder to your hearts content, there are four 'Legendary' ships that are found in the corners of the map & sinking these can be very difficult unless you have upgraded your own ship, this is achieved by finding upgrade plans on some of the Islands or at the bottom of the sea in sunken wrecks, exploring on land you will get attacked by Leopards & black Panthers, Crocodiles etc.

Pirates of the burning sea - was a really good game, it was a subscription based but i think its f2p now but it might be pay to win as i dont think it caught on but was a mint game when it come out!
