Maybe you should mention what you already played.
As for RPGs, my favourites in recent times are Witcher 3, Kingdom Come, (gasp) Cyberpunk 2077, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Elex.

And non-RPG but mustplay is Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rimworld, ticks a lot of your boxes, even more so once you start modding it.

Kenshi would be another none mainstream option and again lots of mods to add to suit your taste.

Neither of them are new and you you need to make your own story around the events that the game present you with.

Pathfinder kingmaker is currently on sale on GOG if you want a traditional DnD

kensihs awesome but it's sandbox with no story other than the one that happens naturally as you play.

great game though even has base building

yea the graphics are crap but one guy made the game alone for 6 years before he could hire anyone else.
the gameplay though

you can build a base somewhere, literally anywhere on the map that will get raided by the locals, the game has research and everything.

your base can even have a shop so your like a proper town npcs visit, caravans will visit to buy and sell stuff etc

watch all the video above, get your mind past the bad graphics the games pretty deep

Yeah you definitely need to make your own narrative but since op likes wide varieties of genres I thought it was worth mentioning.

I'm enjoying Pathfinder Kingmaker a lot but only after installing the Bag of Tricks mod. It really needs modding to enjoy it properly. I'm not getting on very well with Solasta; the voice acting is hilarious/terrifying depending on your point of view and is a real deal breaker for me which is a shame as I suspect the game itself is actually pretty good.

Thanks for the suggestions ill check them out.

I don't have an Xbox pass anymore and the renewal was not worth it as I only played one game on it at the time

I don't think ive played anything from the last few years, Im not really in the loop with new games and the ones I did hear about don't live up to the hype
I'll be honest I've not really found anything I like in the past few years, most new games to me seem very similar

I don't like MMOs

I've Mostly been playing a lot of the free stuff off epic lately
Jurassic World
Might and magic
Civilization VI
Overcooked
My Time At Portia. takes ages, and got a little boring.

Some of the games I've played
Forza horizon 4
Tropico 6 I need to re-install it.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Skyrim old but one of the best (thinking of re-installing it)
Witcher 3 good but I don't think it was as good as the others
Dragon age series (never finished the last one)
Age of Empires II
street fighter
WWE 2k19
Bully
Ni no Kuni II
Mass effect

Stardew Valley I had no idea how to play it, i may give it another go.
I was thinking of getting the new MK

I've been playing baldurs gate 3, pathfinder kingmaker, divinity 2 and neverwinter nights. All great games if they are the type of rpg you are into.

Witcher ive played, Cyberpunk 2077 I was going to get but I was told it had issues and does not live upto the hype
Ive not played any of the Deus ex

red dead redemption I've not played.

Pathfinder 2 Wrath of the Righteous in a few months time, or if you have MS Gamepass and want something right now, Solasta
Ive not heard of either are they any good?

How many pathfinder games are they ? looks a lot like dragon age

Sound like something I would enjoy but like you said the graphic a crap, Can I not add a mod to upgrade it

I've not played any of them but if they are similar to Skyrim, witcher and dragon age and graphics are similar then yes

To give you a heads up quite literally the games are over the head camera angle games they arent in first or third person like witcher and skyrim.

These are going to be mostly top down games
  • Like others mentioned Pathfinder Kingmaker - Number two out soon - Its not like Dragon age really in terms of combat
  • Tyranny
  • Pillers of eternity 1 and 2
  • Solasta is neat but as others mentioned you can see plenty of rough edges
  • Spellforce 3 / Soul harvest and Fallen god - very neat series IMO. Blends Isometric with RTS.
  • Shadowrun - Dragonfall and hong kong, absolutely amazing games and usually had for cheap.
A slightly old game, Metal gear Solid Phantom pain is a blast. Cyberpunk it may not have lived up to some mythical status, but its still a very nice game though does get very easy as you become OP no matter what.

I started Resident Evil 2

Thanks I would have rather it be first person or third person, Im not really into this type unless its a stratergy.

is it still worth playing?

If you like RPG games, you could always try the free trial of final fantasy 14. You can play it up to level 60. So thats the base game and the first expansion.

For the most part the leveling process can be treated as a single player experience apart from certain quests which are dungeon based, which you can just use the group finder for.

It's the most invested I've been in any game in years and the community is considerably better for newer players than other mmos I've tried. Even if you never sub or buy the game and only do the trial content, that is still several hundred hours of gameplay.

While not a "new" game. It has a new expansion due out november.

Don't let graphics put you off. Watch some videos, have a look at official thread. If you're purely after story driven RPG then this is not it as it's more of a colony simulator and the role play is for you to create. :) There are mods that let you level up your pawns in traditional RPG style.

This is a pretty good playlist of a guy playing group of tomb raiders constantly moving his colony.
