Any one comment on these

If hes mostly going to use them for music I'd say put the money into a 2.1 kit. Will get more meat in the speakers and sub for your cash (and thats not just more bass) :)

If hes after 5.1 though, he'll get something acceptable for the money, they're not amazing but they'll do as an upgrade from a cheap 2.1, per rata they're likely going to be very similar speaker to speaker, depending on the cost of the original set, if they were a 30 pound set for that 2.1, you'll likely just end up with 'louder'.

If you havent already spent the cash, the Z10 set for another few quid might be worth a look (2.0 set).

Hes got 2.1 at the moment and he watches a lot of films. He's quite happy with the 2.1 but i know he wants 5.1. They are called altek lansing (sounds cheap)

We have a £30 asda 5.1 kit in the lounge and he likes them!!! So i personally think he should be happy

But i will look at the Z10

thank you for the input!!!

Lansing have been around for years, like harmon kardon, and are arguably a more reputable brand than logitech.

Problem with a lot of logitech (and cheap PC speakers in general) is that like cheap hifis the figures like wattage are heavily skewed, and they tend to be miserable at reproducing the mid section, often trying to shunt it to the sub, and have boomy bass with no depth and shrill highs. The Z10 kit are a bit better than your average set, and do a better job than most at reproducing the sound range cohesively . If you can stretch further the AegoM's are a step above again, however they are almost twice as expensive. You can get better of course but the prices get higher and higher.
