Hey all

I bought Dirt rally on steam as I've seen people playing it with the vive on youtube and it looks really good.

I can't for the life of me getting it working with my Vive.

From what I've read you need Revive of which I've tried the newest version and several older versions with no luck at all.

The game runs on the monitor but I'm getting nothing at all in the Vive.
I tried installing the oculus software but didn't create an account, as I bought it on steam I wasn't sure if I needed it or not but gave it a try and still no luck.

Any help

Reinstalled oculus software and created an account, reinstalled revive and the patch now the game won't even load on the desktop.

It tries to then steam VR becomes unresponsive and shuts down.

any thing else I can try?

Finally after an entire day of messing around I've got it to work and I'm glad I did, it's great in VR!

Don't know how exactly I got it to work but I reinstalled the Oculus software and set up an account then just skipped the part about setting up the headset.

after many tries of the Revive software it seems version 1.1.14 works for me. the latest version 1.2.0 didn't work.

I tried the older Revive patches as well but they where also unsuccessful.

Only the races are in VR the rest of the game you navigate through the monitor.

I'm not getting any HUD in VR though, is that normal?

Does any one have any tips for making it look its best? Currently just have steam SS set to 2

cheers.

a lot of effort to get it working!! glad you are enjoying it :)

Not sure it will look any better. SS values don't really make that much difference once you go beyond 1.6/1.7.

Can't recall having a HUD in VR (though it has been a long time since I've played it), but with the Rift, you can definitely navigate all of the menus in VR as it basically presents them to you on a floating virtual screen (so maybe Revive isn't 100% working with it).

I think there's options to change the overlay, but no more than what you get from the flatscreen. There's options to jig around the VR camera though. Glad you got it sorted anyway, I apologise for not answering. I could have confirmed it works, but it was so long ago since I went through the process of installing revive, and patching it up, in truth I've forgotten:)

I'm having great fun, not played a car game since Colin McRae rally on the PS1 :)

Not having the whole game in VR is a little annoying as I keep having to remove the HMD after every race.

I had a play about with the settings but can't get it to show in the head set all the time.
Can you remember what setting it was?

I've found you can reset the VR camera position in game which is handy as sometimes your head is sticking out the top of the car, think it depends where your HMD is when you start the game.

cheers

If you're playing in VR, the only camera option in the game should be the in car. You are right about the placing of the hmd, and the adjustments.

What you can do though is map the buttons to whatever controller your using, it'll save you removing the set between rounds.

Just discovered the grey screen is a dome and the menu is showing behind me?!?

Which is equally annoying as I have to spin my chair 180 degrees after a race to see the menu then spin it 180 back again for the race.

Why is VR never simple :)

Right I think I'm finally set.

I had to download the openVR advanced settings overlay from here...

Which has an option to change the play space amongst other things, looks like a pretty handy tool for general VR use any way so worth getting.

Any who after adjusting the play space I now have the full game in the HMD and the full HUD in race so it's happy days.

The play space adjustment can be fine tuned as well so you can set it up how you like which is nice.

It's taken a lot of effort to get this game running but I'm glad i've done it, its an absolute blast to play. It's making me want to get a full wheel and pedal set up :)

I'm sure you can re-center the menu. I'd be knackered if you couldn't, my racing rig is well off track from the chaperone.

You can re center through the game but it didn't work with the menu screens, it only worked while in the car.

With the openVR advanced settings you have total control over where the play space is so you can set it up perfectly for your play space and position. Happy days :)
