Hi all... :)

Ok ive just got rid of my car (finance was killing me) but now i need something to run about in..Ive just bought a moto x bike so need something to lug this about.
Ive found a 1990 transit 1.6 petrol for sale..has anyone had one of these?.are there any known problems with them? (apart from rust :D )

If you could reply ASAP it would be great cus im off to look at it later..Many thanks :) :)

check out the insurance on them first, they can be expensive as they are never used for social.domestic, or pleasure usage :)

Been quoted £289 by direct line which includes business use if i want it..Not bad for a 25 year old i thought (well a lot cheaper then my rx7 lol!!! :p )..

i presume it must be a SWB to have a 1.6? must be quite slow.

we have 3 transits at work 94,95 & 96 models. all have 2.5 diesels (non turbo) the SWB go reasonably well with this engine, but the Luton is dog slow.

apart from rust and usual wear and tear, the only other common theme has been electrical gremlins (good old ford), otherwise pretty good.

It will be shot.
1.6 petrol in a tranny.......
*shudders*

Find anything with a diesel engine, even if the petrol isnt shot, the petrol consumption will be hideous.

The do as you likeys will be round to see you soon and leave you with less parts than you had before

If you want a van get a VW transporter

1.6 petrol tranny is an underpowered gas guzzler & will average 17-20 mph steer clear ( pun intended lol)

Gladiator has also given us some silly low quotes at work, so try them too.

I would go for the diesel as the petrol will not only consume plenty of petrol but also not pull very well when loaded. We have a V plate LWB hi-top at work with the 100ps TD engine and it is more than powerful enough - only had it a week but a tank lasted over 300 miles of town stop-start use.

Get a diesel, the non-turbo might be slow, but it will pull well no matter how loaded it is.

Van insurance is dirt cheap if you're going to have a commercial use, but sure the quotes you are getting are for commercial and not private use.
