Any one used one of these? (Internal USB hub)

Hi all

I have an Asus maximus ix formula ( well hope to again soon :( ).

Any way as some may know it only has 1xusb header on the MB.

I ran it like this for about a year with only my Corsair 115i connected but I also now want to connect my RM1000i PSU.

I am looking at this

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aqua-computer-hubby7-internal-usb-2.0-hub-bb-003-aq.html

or

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt-ac-iusbh-m1-internal-usb-hub-ca-18k-nx.html (not in stock at the moment but not a problem as waiting for MB to be returned).

I would like to know how these actually work and if it would be fine to use to connect both devices I mentioned above?.

Thank again LOL

P.S

Just going over loads of things as I am doing a build log and want every thing here for when my MB is returned so I can crack on with it all :)

They work exactly the same way as an external USB hub works. There's a chip that handles the communication logic and one upstream input becomes several downstream usb ports.

The only difference in all this versus external USB is the shape of the connectors. It's all sharing the same sets of 4 pins per socket. Bear in mind one mobo header (9 pins in a 5x2 grid) is two usb sockets really so maybe you can split your one out for the PSU and cooler anyway.

What's nice about the ones you listed is they are powered externally, should be useful for the pump at least. USB is specced to supply 2.5W, expect an AIO pump to draw more like 5-15.

Should be totally fine to use for PSU and cooler :)

Hi sorry for the late reply.

Hmmm are you saying I could get a y split header cable? if there is such a thing etc and just connect the two devices to that from the single onboard usb header?.

I expect those cables will exist, it would help to know how many wires are on each of your devices' plugs. The 5x2 header block for USB2 is two rows of the same conductors, so if there's only 4/5 wires in a line for each device, they should both work on one header. You may need to do some cable fiddling, pin removal etc. Alternatively jumper pin extensions would do you if you secured them nicely

ah I see.

Hmm tbh not wanting to get into pin shuffling I might just get the USB header hub thing then as thats probably the easiest way :).

Thanks again for helping me appriciate it :).

Derp sorry,

ummm ok.

I aint getting this so shall have to looky at how these headers on the MB actually work.
I never knew one header could support two devices so shall do some looking :).

Though I do infact remember reading in the manual for my MB that it does support x2 devices on that header (thats how I read it any way).

FYI my MB is an

Asus Maximus ix Formula

Its currently with Asus as id decided to die :(
